Hi all, I installed Office 2013 Pro Plus 32-bit downloaded from Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center about three weeks ago. Today my Office installation has started to prompt that activation is required. At the time of my installation, the KMS update for Office 2013 was not available but it now is. I installed the update from for Office 2013 32-bit Volume License Pack, imported the KMS Host key from our Volume Licensing Service Center, and after restarting the KMS Host and the Windows 8 client PC, I am still getting Activation Required in Office. I tried to re-enter the Office 2013 Pro Plus GVLK from however the Office installation is stating 'Sorry, this isn't a Microsoft Office 2013 product key'. I double checked the Volume Licensing Service Center today to make sure there isn't a specific VL download that I should have used and missed, and I only see the one instance of Office 2013 Pro Plus in the downloads list. What am I missing?

Thanks, Richard. Richard Green MCSE Windows Server 2003, MCTS Desktop Virtualization. In part, I just found the issue. When I was re-reading the Volume Activation Methods for Office 2013(), I re-read the section regarding Windows 8 computers. In my haste, without double-checking the KB number, I assumed that this was KB2667402v2 which was the KMS Host update to support the installation (IPK) of a Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 KMS Host Key, however it is actually KB2757817 which is an update specifically for Office 2013 and Windows 8.

I have installed this KMS Host update and my Windows 8 client is now reporting a different error when I use cscript ospp.vbs /act. Once I then rustled up five clients to activate the license in KMS it's all working. Thanks for the help.

I read about the ospp.vbs on the TechNet guidance for Office 2013, but couldn't find the file, then released I had neglected a search:( SKU ID: 2b88c4f2-ea8f-43cd-805e-4d41346e18a7 LICENSE NAME: Office 15, OfficeProPlusVL_MAK edition LICENSE DESCRIPTION: Office 15, RETAIL(MAK) channel LICENSE STATUS: ---UNLICENSED--- ERROR CODE: 0xC004F014 ERROR DESCRIPTION: The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is not available. So based on the output, I'm confused? I downloaded the Office 2013.iso file from our Volume License site which explains the VL part of the product designation, but I'm confused as to why it has MAK Retail in the edition? I searched the Volume License site and there doesn't seem to be a separate product.iso download for VL_KMS, so am I missing something?

Richard Green MCSE Windows Server 2003, MCTS Desktop Virtualization. If it's an installation from VL media, then it's expected/normal that all the 'Retail' license channels should report 'not installed' or 'not available' or 'unlicensed'. Yours should show a different license status for the VL channel licenses (eg KMSClient, KMSMAK) when using VL media, and your intention is to use KMS for activation, the necessary KMSClient product key is pre-installed in the VL media for you, so for KMS scenarios, you don't need to do anything to the client at all. You do need to setup, install and activate your KMShost server. Your KMSClient editions will then automatically discover and activate against your KMShost server.
