Their eldest son Prabhakar (Sanjay Mone) and his wife (Suhas Joshi) have three children - Prashant (Sunil Barve), Anand (Bharat Jadhav) and Alka.

Their younger son Bal (Bal Karve) and his wife Shalini (Amita Khopkar) have two daughters -Latika and Kalika. The family is close knit and bound together by values. However, minor differences do occur. One point of discussion in the house is whether they should sell the old house and make way for a tower where they can all be accommodated in separate flats. Living in a joint family the younger generation is always pampered and protected which they feel is a real obstacle in their growth process when facing the harsh realities of the outside world. Each has a unique mindset & are eager to explore the abundance of experiences outside their sheltered nest.

But despite their idealogies how they stand by their family & each other in the times of crisis is the essence of the story. The serial is written & directed by Pratima Kulkarni. One easily identifies with some or the other character of the Deshmukh family. The serial has given me a lot in terms of moral,social values.it gave a very rational outlook.i being a conservation architect.i used to consider even the house as a character.i am glad it has returned back to my life after so many years due to the re telecast.
